چکیده

Mobile radio communication systems are affected by the frequency and time selectivity of radio channel due to multipath propagation and Doppler shifts. In an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) based Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) system, the spreading schemes will suffer loss of orthogonality between codewords of different users. In this thesis, basic system model of several OFDM-based CDMA system is described and their performance is simulated and compared. In the basic system model, simple single-user detection without equalization is used. It is found that TimeFrequency Localized CDMA (TFL-CDMA) outperforms Multi-Carrier CDMA (MCCDMA) and Multi-Carrier Direct-Sequence CDMA (MC-DS-CDMA), by localizing chips to a rectangular time-frequency grid. Improved detection techniques used to restore the orthogonality between different users’ codewords, such as equalization and low-complexity Multi-User Detection (MUD), are investigated. Their performance is compared with the basic system model and the single-user system (Multiple-Access-Interference (MAI) free system). It is observed that both equalization and MUD can improve system performance significantly. It is also found that 7-user MUD outperforms 2-user MUD and equalization, at the cost of the highest complexity of the receiver. Using well localized TFL-CDMA schemes and 7-user MUD together, system performance is found to quite close to the BER of corresponding single-user system. In addition, equalization is shown to have better performance than 2-user MUD, although its complexity is less than the latter.

Multiuser MIMO channel equalization

In MIMO receivers, the channel state needs to be estimated for equalization, detection, and for feedback to the transmitter in case of adaptive modulation and coding. Most current iterative [7, 16, 27] and non-iterative [25] schemes in the single-user MIMO case are training-based and rely on the transmission of pilot symbols. Alternatives to pilot-based algorithms are semi-blind schemes which e...

Partial Equalization of Multi-Carrier CDMA in Frequency Selective Fading Channels

In this paper we consider the detection of Multi-Carrier-Code Division Multiple Access (MCCDMA) signals in frequency selective fading channels using partial channel equalization. By partially compensating for the fading channel amplitude we can reduce the multi-user interference without considerably enhancing the additive noise level. As a result the MC-CDMA scheme can exploit the frequency div...

Linear and Nonlinear Multi-User Detection in Coded OFDM-CDMA Systems

This paper analyzes the performance of linear and nonlinear multi-user detection (MUD) for an asynchronous OFDM-CDMA uplink transmission. Specifically, we regard linear MUD techniques such as the decorrelator and the MMSE approach as well as the nonlinear parallel interference cancellation (PIC) and their combination. It is pointed out that OFDM-CDMA systems offer a great advantage over single ...

Nonlinear Multiuser Receiver for Optimized Chaos-Based DS-CDMA Systems

Chaos based communications have drawn increasing attention over the past years. Chaotic signals are derived from non-linear dynamic systems. They are aperiodic, broadband and deterministic signals that appear random in the time domain. Because of these properties, chaotic signals have been proposed to generate spreading sequences for wide-band secure communication recently. Like conventional DS...
